Longarm Quilting Machine
During the 2006/2007 season, the Handi-Quilter Company in Bountiful, Utah, loaned Quilters 2 an HQ16 quilting machine. The purpose of the loan was to facilitate the production of charity quilts. In late 2018, Quilters 2 members worked to acquire a replacement for our aging machine. We obtained a new Handi-Quilter Avante machine. In 2023, the group purchased a Gammill longarm from one of our members to replace the Handi-Quilter machine.
A longarm machine is capable of quilting anything from placemat size to king bed size items. Stitch patterns can be produced using either free hand design, or predesigned patterns using pantographs. We also have rulers that can help achieve many different designs.
Quilters 2 provides instruction to members who want to learn to use the longarm machine. Once a person has completed the Quilters 2 training course, they are allowed to begin quilting charity quilts. We currently serve just under 20 local charities and make almost 300 quilts a year for these charities. Check out our Charities page for the current list and a short description of each charity. Gammill Training and Refresher Sessions The schedule is announced at Monday Quilters 2 meetings and is posted on the wall of the HQ room.
